Messages Marked Read Unintentionally - Outloook 2002

I have Outlook 2002 set up to mark messages read after reading. This
works fine normally. However, if the Inbox happens to be empty when I
check the mail, everything downloaded gets marked as read. As long
as at least one message is left in the Outbox, this doesn't happen. I
use numerous folders and sub-folders.

This happens when you have the option "mark as read after x seconds"
enabled. You can change this in Tools-> Options-> tab Other-> button Preview
Pane... If there is nothing in your Inbox and a message comes into that
folder it will automatically get selected and thus marked as read after x
seconds.

I don't get your referrence to the Outbox folder.

Sorry Robert. I meant the Inbox folder. I will try that, but these
things get marked read instantly, There is no delay at all. I have
to search around within the various folders to find out what the heck
came in.

I looked, and I don't have that option checked. The one I do have
checked is, "Mark item as read when selection changes."
