These are probably Outlook Express questions, but I thought that
someone here may know.

1) I use OE to check these forums. It seems to keep around 2 months
worth of messages, then the older ones disappear. Is there a way to
change this time limit?

2) Messages seem to be broken up into several lines. When I paste
messages into Word, I can see the new line characters (when I choose
Reveal Formatting). Is this done when messages are posted on the forum
(in which case there's nothing I can do about it), or is it when OE
reads messages off the forum (in which case perhaps there's a setting
in OE which allows me to turn this off).

3) Perhaps there's something better than OE to look at these forums -
I'm interested in any suggestions.

I've not been doing this long enough to know all the ins and outs of it ,
but ...

1) Under Tools > Options > Maintenance (tab) you can set the nmber of days
(up to 999) to keep messages

2) I think it's done when posted but there are techniques for stopping it as
I see occasional posts where it hasn't happened.

3) There are other tools but I know nothing of them

Yes, but if they have been downloaded then OE can be set to keep them for
longer, can't it?

Yes, it can, but I am not sure that I would want to be keeping all of the
thousands of messages on my computer. Those that I do want to keep, I copy
(drag) into a local "Tips" folder. Otherwise I use Google Groups when I
want to refer someone to a response that I know I created maybe years ago.

I agree completely. I have mine set to 21 days and that is plenty. Which is
why I wasn't sure what happened with higher values.
