Messages sent from Groupwise appearing as plain text

A collegue of mine has recently changed his messaging software at home to
Outlook. After this change all messages that I send him seem to go to him in
plain text format even though my email server is set to "HTML messages".
Today another friend also complianed about this (he is also using Outlook).
I've done a bit of research on this - and I guess I am not the only person
suffering from this. Can someone help me identify what the problem is? My
office uses a Novell Groupwise email server.
