Messaging Interface error when trying to send a custom form

B

Bizzy Byers

Hello.

Can you help me please?

I have created a custom form, in Outlook 2000, and
published it in a Public Folder. It is quite a simple
form with a couple of labels and a few text boxes. I have
created fields to bind the data entered and all seems to
be OK.

I can send it successfully from my own machine, but other
users on the network cannot. The error message generated
is "The Messaging Interface has returned an unknown error
etc."

I have checked users permissions, which are listed below,
in case it is a permissions issue.

Create Items YES
Read Items YES
Folder Visible YES
Edit Items NONE
Delete Items NONE

The message class of the item is IPM.Note

Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?

Thanks, in advance,

Bizzy

I'm a little confused. Why are you publishing a message form in a public
folder? It needs to be published in the Organizational Forms library or in
individual users' Personal Forms library. Also, the message class will be
IPM.Note.something -- IPM.Note is the default message form.

Thanks for replying so quickly Sue.

I cannot publish in the Organisational Forms Library as I
do not have the correct permissions (I am trying to get my
Exchange Server Support Company to give me same, but they
deny that it is their problem!).

The form is if little use, if no one else can see it and I
do not wish to recreate it on each machine. I thought the
best solution would be to publish the form in the folder
that was created to receive completed items.

The complete class is IPM.Note.RIP Notifications (which is
the title of my form)

I hope I've made things clearer (Sorry, I'm pretty new to
Outlook).

Think about it: When the recipient opens the message, how would Outlook know
to look in a specific public folder among perhaps thousands to retrieve the
form definitiion? Publishing a form to a folder is fine *if* you're going to
store the items created with the form in that folder, but it's not the
solution for message forms. The alternative, in the meantime, is for each
potential recipient to publish the form in their Personal Forms library with
the same message class as the sender is using.

That aside, the publishing location may have nothing at all to do with the
error message that users were seeing. It would be interesting to know if the
affected users can load any custom forms without errors.

The support company needs to create the Organization Forms Library on
the server that you use. It is a folder that is not created by
default. You need to tell them to look up how to do it in the help
files. After that, they can give you permissions to use it.

Thanks, again, Sue.

I do not think that the recipients have a problem with
receiving the form (I have sent a test message from my
machine and all recipients have acknowledged receipt).
All users can see the form in the public folder and all
can load it successfully. It is only on sending that the
problem occurs.

Bizzy.

Thanks.

I have arranged for permissions to be granted and the form
is now published in the Organisational Forms Library.
Everyone on the systen can see it and load it. However,
on completion and hitting the send button the error is
still present!!

Could it be a user permissions issue?

Bizzy.
