Messaging interface returned unknown error

When I tried to send out an email, i received an error message
"The messaging interface returned an unknown error. Please shut down and
restart Outlook"
I am using Outlook 2002 (XP). What does this error means?

Is this when using Word as the email editor?

No, we are not using Word as the email editor.

Yes, I do have virus scanner installed. Okay I will do a testing. But as
this error message is intermitent, I would have to monitor the status after
uninstalling.
