I want have a page in a folder that could be a sub web protected access
limited to business colleagues where they can leave messages for one
another; akin to a chat room but not in real time. I can create the sub
web but I would like to know how the messaging can be done?

Maybe something like WebWiz forum will work for you...if your host supports
ASP
http://www.webwizguide.com/web_wiz_forums/default.asp
requirements
http://www.webwizguide.com/web_wiz_forums/forum_specifications.asp?mode=

Above won't work on linux/unix...but there are plenty other similar kinds of
forums/portals...find out what your server supports first before looking for
a solution.

Oh, yeah...sometimes hosts have forums available for their clients for free
or low cost installation fee so check with your host for this as well.

Thank you Rob - I've had a look at WebWiz but as only two people are
involved in a business about to start up I think something simpler might
be more appropriate. I made an analogy to a Chat Room. Maybe an
on-line answer phone might be a better description. Something like:
___________________________________________________________
Today
3.45 pm
Ang to San - I'll be back from Timbuktu at 7pm and will phone you then
4.05 pm
San to Ang - I'll await your call.
___________________________________________________________
Yesterday
9.05 am
San to Ang - When you arrive Timbuktu call me for an update of the deal
___________________________________________________________

otay..

first, find out what your host might have available for free (why re-invent
the wheel).
