Messenger-less webcam

why is it that

a] the corporate side of Messenger for Mac doesnt allow one to log on unless (presumably) if you are on a commercial/corporate network?

b] the personal side of Messenger for Mac doesnt have a webcam option while the corporate does?

It's not fair on private individuals who don't have a network, and therefore a user id, to cut out one of the key areas of useage. Come out of the era when being a mac user was 'beyond the pale' and bring out a version where both facets of the software enable webcam useage. Yahoo and AIM do - so why not you?

Well, there really are plenty of reasons. But, the people her are just users
like you. So, to get the message to Microsoft, use the Send Feedback form
the help menu in any application. Be sure to explain why this is important
to you.

it has to do with the video protocols that are in use.

The corporate system uses a server hosted on the corporations own
network, and being less dependant on the massive international
infrastructure MS have been able to incorporate more modern video
protocols that can be supported on the mac.

the personal side connects through server farms at Microsoft and users
much older protocols that rely on ancient code embedded deep within the
windows operating system. Apparently it would be a huge task to rewrite
these and make them available for the mac and MS don't want to commit
this resource to a task that will generate little to no revenue,
especially since there have been plans (or at least, wishes) to move the
massive messenger network wholesale over to the new protocols.

The inclusion of video in the corporate half of the new messenger was a
welcome step in the right direction, and lays the foundation for the
incorporation of video into the personal side _when_ the infrastructure
eis in place in the server farms all round the world.

I will happen eventually, I am sure. Just not any time soon. The delay
is down to the logistics, not any lack of will.
