Meta Tags & Search Engine Submission

I have submiited my site over 12 months ago.

I have carried out a Meta Tag check and it has returned no descrition or
Keywords
I have entered the required text in web page options as follows:

Page Title: Brelade Cocker Spaniels the Home of Blue Roan & Chocolate Roan
Cocker Spaniels

Description: Welcome to my cocker spaniels website. If you are a fan of
cocker spaniels or Irish water spaniels or German shorthaired pointers or are
looking for a puppy as a pet or for show then this is the right place to be!

Keywords: cocker spaniel breeders_brelade cockers_cocker spaniel breeders in
devon and cornwall_blue roan cocker spaniels_chocolate roan cocker
spaniels_cocker spaniel puppies_cocker spaniels_english cocker
spaniels_cocker spaniels uk_cocker spaniels

Have i entered all the info in the right format, should i use comma's or
underscores etc.

I know search engine listings are a hit or miss.

Any advice on Meta Tags would be gratefully recieved.

I know others would be intrested in your replies, be easy on me!!!!!!!!

but from what i understand keywords don't matter too much these
days..content on index page does

search Google for; cocker spaniel then look at the top few sites' source
code and you'll see. Your index page has virtually no descriptive
text...mostly images which don't count.

Mike, Roger That.

Again i think i may be asking a lot, but i am not getting any returns under
cocker spaniels on google, all my vistiors are coming via links i have placed
on other sites.

I have entered my meta tags on free tests, and they have come back with no
description, i am just trying to get other vistors from generalistion
keywords.

My understanding is that in order to get very high ranks in Google,
having your pages on other sites counts a lot. Of course, it also
depends on how much competition there is. I would suspect there are
thousands of sites that have cocker spaniel in their meta tags or key
words. If hundred of them all have a link to a specific site, such as
the AKA, it will show up higher in searches.

There are several sites that offer advice for getting a higher ranking,
though the ones that claim they can achieve it for you (at a price) are
pretty much scams.

I maintain four web sites. On two of them, my site is either first or
second and that is using very general terms. For the other two, they
come out very far down the list. One of them doesn't even show up using
every term I can think of, such as St. James Catholic Church Wyoming
Ohio. Of course, it's only been under its current address for six months.

Google: ballet phoenix -and you'll see one of my sites, comes up 4th I
think (balletandfriends.org) and I have no keywords or metatags at all.
880,000 hits in 2006 with 150,000 page views and I don't promote this site
at all.

If i could get half of those stats, i would be amazed, i have only had
10,000 visits in a year, i am able to see where my viewers come from, 95% are
from linked sites, which i am more than happy with.
My average days visits 40-50, i cant really get above that number, i only
asked the above question as i realise cocker spaniels is quite a common
keyword, but i have been more specific with other keywords, and they still
dont return a average listing.

I know if you could crack Higher Ranking & Listings, i would be a millonare

Don't you mean if "you" could do that (instead of Crash!) that "you"
would be rich? :)

Put descriptive content on your home page, not just images! ( I said this

Sorry to pounce in, guys, but I have the same question: how can I get
noticed? Until we changed servers (old one unreliable), I was lucky to get
half dozen hits daily.

I THOUGHT I had content on my home page, but what does Google consider
"content". They didn't notice my old site. Non-profits get hits because
people wonder what the local company is up to. But what about retail art
sites? Brelade, you think there are lots of cocker spaniel sites - google
arts & crafts!

When I get the new site [fixed like you guys explained to me (thanks!)] I
can give you a link. I feel like I'm tossing ideas in the ozones and hoping
someone sees them. Really at a loss - seems whatever tags I'm using aren't
working!

SEO is an art in itself.

One thing to watch out for is if you use Publisher and you have overlapping
images and Pub changes your text into a giant .gif..search engines can't
read images so that could hurt you.

Mostly it takes time and links from other sites and descriptive text and and

Google for SEO info..but don't fall for anything that charges you money to
do it for you.

Thanks for the heads up on the SEO. I'm always wary of someone who charges
for free stuff but with web stuff I'm never sure what's free and what's free
with strings.

I've been checking th pages with the browser function, but don't know what
it will look like on Netscape, etc. I'm pretty sure someone will tell me, but
in what way ?!? Think I'd rather dive with hungry sharks than put this site
up.

I've been prowling the discussions for months, but not all of the info is
applicable to my situation. If you have any other tips, I will listen
happily.
