Metatags Question

I'm using FP2002 and have a question about Meta tags -- specifically
keywords.

I use the FP navigation setup. This particular site has significantly
different content on each page within the site.

My question is, do I need to use different metatags (and keywords) on each
page for best results? Will search engines find metatags deep within the
navigation structure? Or is it a waste, and I should just use metatags on
my index.htm page and go with that?

If you are going to use meta tags (title, description and keywords) they need to be on all pages
that you want indexed and they MUST match the content of the page they appear on.

Many will say you don't need the keywords meta tags any more, however they will not hurt you with
your site being indexed, as long as you follow the above.

they need to be on all pages that you want indexed and they MUST

The last new site I put up 2 months ago did not have keywords, but did
have page title and page description. If it slowed it down being
listed by the search engines, it sure didn't show. It was indexed by
google within 24 hours of going on line and it now indexed by all the
majors. I think the best thing going is to make sure quality sites
are linked to your site, and in turn your site is linked to other
related quality sites.

Something interesting is, many hits are coming to the site with single
key words, so I have to assume the crawlers are indexing the key words
with no help from me. This may be an advantage , because I don't have
to worry about not having the key words correct for every single page.

Oh, I fully agree. The site I mentioned is getting under 40% of links
from Google. All search engines seem to be getting better at only
listing sites that actually have the word you search. The problem is,
many builders put all kinds of unrelated words on their site to try to
draw you to it. Ebay is such an example. I don't care what word you
search for, Ebay says they are just the place!!
