Method to log where install fails? PS 2003

Hi,

We are having problems with the final stages of our PS 2003
installation. As it flashes the message "...IIS Root", then the
installation stops and rolls back, saying the install ended prematurely.

Checking the event viewer, we have found some mention of the DTC service
failing, but I am unsure as to whether this is really related or not.
When we checked, the DTC service was not running and could not be
started, but again I don't know if this is significant or not.

What I was wondering is if there is a tool to log the installation
process, so we can see what is causing the install to fail?

The DTC service is a requisite, so the error message and your investigation
is revealing enough in this case. You can find more information on creating
verbose installation logs for Project Server on TechNet.
