Microft Outlook 97

I copied Outlook 97 from "my documents" and pasted it to my USB Jump drive.
My intention was to use this copied file as a backup. My hard drive crashed,
so I installed a new harddrive and reinstalled Windows 2000 Professional and
Microsoft Office 97, which includes Outlook 97. However when I open MS
Outlook 97, it has no data or anything because I have just re-installed the
software. Therefore my question is, "How do I open my copied file of MS
Outlook 97 and have access to my contacts etc.? Please advise.

exactly what file did you copy? contacts are stored in a file with the pst
extension.

Did you copy the file from the key to the desktop and connect it (file, open
menu) to your profile?

Hi Diane,

My responce to your question will reveal my limited computer knowledge. I
know just enough to be dangerous. Anyway, here goes...

I've discovered that when I copied "My Documents" which is where I put my
outlook file, and pasted "My Documents" to my jump drive, that the only thing
I really copied and pasted was the application but not the data.

I did copy & paste a pst file a while back. I believe this file has most of
the data I need. But, I don't know how to open this file.

I don't understand your 2nd question about coping the file from the key(?)
to the desktop and connecting it to my profile (?).

I was told to try the following steps: "File, Open, Data File. However I've
never seen a "Data File" option.

sometimes outlook has a problem reading pst's on removable media - copying
them to the hard drive helps. In this case, it didn't matter since you had
the wrong file on the key.

They changed the menu names since 97... look on the File menu for Open - the
Open menu should have something about opening an existing pst or something.
Thar's the option you want - browse to the location of the pst you saved
before and select it.
