Microsft Excel

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

I have been using Microsoft 2008 Excel for almost a month now, with few problems. However, when I tried to open excel today, the program crashes before fully opening. I have downloaded the update, and the program is still crashing.

In a final valiant effort, in my old PC habits, I uninstalled Microsoft 2008 from my comp, reinstalled and updated. The problem still exists... before excel opens, an error message opens and the document closes.

Please help!

Hello James,

You've posted this in a Word newsgroup. Although some people here use Excel,
you'd be much better off posting in the Excel for Mac newsgroup (use a more
specific subject and you'll improve your chances too).

Old PC habits of re-installing are not good on the Mac, with its very
different operating system from Windows -- in fact re-installing can often
make things worse, without affecting the preferences that can be the cause
of the problem. :-\

But with a bit of luck maybe you're no worse off! (said he cheerfully) ;-)

....And if you follow Clive's suggestion you might ask yourself the following
question before doing so:

"I wonder if it might be useful to someone trying to help me to know *what
the error message states*?"

Also, *How* are you launching: Doc icon, Application icon, double-clicking a
file? Is the behavior different with one way than another?

Did you install the recent OS X updates? If so did you repair disk
permissions afterward?
