First time for the following:

Opened Microsoft Word and the following came up
Microsoft access 2000 SR-1 runtime. starts to load and receive the following:
error 1706 no valid source could be found for product. Windows installer
cannot continue.

I cancel and continue but what causes this and what can I do?

That's a registry corruption.

Put in your Office CD, then go to the Help menu in any running Office
application and run "Detect and repair". That will fix the registry for
you.

Be prepared to let it run: it sits there for a long time apparently doing
nothing.

You selected "Detect and Repair"?

It should take over and just do it from there. It should come up with a
completion dialog telling you that the installation was repaired
successfully.

Is it not doing that?
