Microsoft auto-update feature deleted Excel

Having updated (automatically) my MS Excel Office 2004 last week I found that my shortcuts stopped being able to locate the application. Searching through my folders I find that the MS Office 2004 folder now only contains MS Word and MS Powerpoint (so entourage has been 'vanished' as well. )

Is this a known feature and do I need to re-install from scratch? I tried checking for any further updates using auto installer but it just tells me that I am fully up to date. Nice

this happens occasionally when an error is encountered in the update
process. The installer script crashes out between deleting the old
versions and installing the new ones.

The safest way to correct it is to delete the entire Office folder and
re-install from scratch (because you don't know what else may not have
been properly restored). Use the 'remove office' tool in the office
folder or on your original CD.

Barry, I'm having the same problem. If I uninstall office and then re-install it will I lose my documents. For example, all my Word documents??? Thanks
