Microsoft Automatic Updater problem with Office XP Pro

B

Bill

I have allowed Microsoft to automatically update my Office, but each program
now keeps initializing each and every time like it was just updated again.
For example, I can go into WORD and it will say it is initializing the
program, and finally start it, but if I leave... and go back, it starts to
inizialize all over again instead of just loading the program.
Is there a data file somewhere that was interrupted and not erased? What
else could it be?

Sorry Susan, I had that information in my original message when no one
replied. This is the second attempt to get some answer, and I blew it.
Windows XP PRO with Office XP.

No problem--we'll see if we can figure it out.

Is it the "Preparing to install..." message you are getting?

Is it only Word? Do you have multiple versions of Word installed? (Check
in the Control Panel) That will happen with multiple versions of Word (such
as an old one that might have been installed with Works or an earlier
version of Office).

You might also re-run setup for Office XP to see if it can repair itself.

Yes, indeed, but in all programs - I think. It is hard to tell in Excell and
Access, because it starts to load a number of files almost right away -.

Sorry--Yes indeed to which question? Do you have multiple versions of
Office / Word installed?

Susan, the answer "Yes indeed" was to your question of "Is it the 'Preparing
to install....' message you are getting.' And no, I do not have multiple
versions; just Microsoft Office XP Professional with Publisher Version 2002.

Thanks. Have you tried to let the installer run and supply the installation
CDs?

Susan, I cannot believe this conversation. It is wasting a lot of time. I
know that MS uses a file to indicate how far the AUTOMATIC updater has
progressed and what to do to finish and complete such action.

The problem was caused by MS automatic updater (PLEASE NOTE) and not by the
program CDs which had installed weeks earlier.

I am asking for a fix of the problem, since if I reinstall and then let MS
reupdate the same problem may well and should well reoccur.

What is the difficulty?

In that case, you may need to contact Microsoft Technical Support for help
with the patching.

Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.
