Greetings -
I have used Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac pretty much since it came out.
The problem I'm having is that the Microsoft Autoupdate program...
* does NOT work if my web traffic is directed through our site's
web cache/proxy (provided using the "Squid" server)
* WORKS if I configure my Mac's System Preferences Proxies settings
to bypass our web cache for www.microsoft.com
This latter is a workaround option I can use.
HOWEVER we now have users who are *required* to go through the web
cache/proxy for their web access; they cannot bypass it. (They are
using a private IP address range, so it really is technically not
possible for them to "go direct" to Microsoft's site.)
When Autoupdate is used through the Squid web cache it reports it is
"Checking for updates" and then sits with its 'busy' cursor showing
indefinitely. Snooping the Ethernet traffic shows it DID get a reply
back from www.microsoft.com; I assume some HTTP headers added by Squid
invalidated soe digital signing or somesuch of the response.
Has anyone manage to get Autoupdate working through Squid?
How do I report this problem to Microsoft? (I've scoured their web site
and the only "Report Bug" pages find say to telephone them ... not
really practical from the UK. Don't the have an e-mail address or web
form to do this through? :-(
Cheers,
