Hello,

My calendar started acting up again as it did this summer. When I clicked the Calendar icon, Entourage flashed the message: "Entourage cannot open the item due to an error." (I'd post a screen shot of the error message, but this form does not accept graphics.)

Quitting and restarting Entourage did not help. When I tried to rebuild the database, Microsoft Database Utility crashed. I got the generic "Microsoft Database Utility" dialog that offers to report the problem and restart the utility.

In the past, the utility fixed the issue. What might be the problem now, and how could I fix it?

You can post a screenshot using a service like ImageShack. It's free.

I suspect there could be several problems going on here.

Steps to help determine where the problem is located.

1) you can eliminate your Identity by creating a new Identity in Entourage
and see if you experience the same problem.

2) if a new Identity still exhibits the same issues, then create a new User
in System Preferences and test Entourage there. If the problem is in your
User's account, then log out/in with Shift key down to disable any startup
items. Test. If the problem still exists, it's most likely a preference file
that's corrupt. See these pages for help:

3) If the problems still exist in the new User, it's a problem with your
base OS files. If running the Apple combo does not fix, then you might need
to do an "Archive & Install".

Let me know what your testing shows.
