Microsoft Document Imaging- MDI file URL

Originally posted to Office General- I am still stumped..

Has anyone had a problem trying to open .MDI file from a URL eg
Http://servername/subdir/test.mdi ??

When using an XP(ofice 2003) machine the URL works OK for the local
webserver ie
Http://xpPCname/subdir/test.mdi

But when I put the file on the server (SBS 2003) and try to access from
the same XP PC I get the file not found message from IE. The folder is
shared and I can open XLS/Test/PDF and other files from the URL via IE.
If I change the extension from .mdi to .txt the files open.

Using windows explorer I can navigate to the folder and open the MDI
file.

What am I missing ?
