Microsoft document imaging writer no longer prints in MDI format

My Microsoft document imaging writer has disappeared from available printers.
I reinstalled Microsoft document imaging writer from the Office 2003 disk but
this did not help. I then added a printer and choose Microsoft document
imaging writer port but was not able to choose the Microsoft document imaging
writer monitor under add new port. (This seem make sense as a way to add the
Microsoft document imaging writer as a printer.) So, I added it as a generic
driver and choose the MS Publisher color printer as the driver. I then
changed the driver under printer properties to the Microsoft document imaging
writer driver. So far so good I can now print to it as a TIF when I change
the properties under advanced settings but, I am still unable to print to as
a MDI. I think this printer option disappeared with the install of Win XP SP2
but, it could have been the JPG security update. Any suggestions or has
anyone else experienced this issue?
