Chris.

Mary,

Thanks for the response.

I have SP3 installed and as far as I know the latest scanner drivers. My IT
guys have checked all this for me and ensured me the software is all ok.
I have also tried to "detect and repair office" through add and remove
programs to see if it solved the problem but to no avail.

Chris.

I really don't know why you are getting this error. I found the following on a
forum.

Shorten the name of your scanner in the control panel to under 26 characters,
for instance if it says Hewlett-Packard Office Jet K80 Scanner, change it to HP
OfficeJet K80 Scanner.

Chris.

I have found a work around. I got onto another laptop in the office that had
the scanner working and copied the folder and all it's contents named "11.0"
from the directory \Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\MODI\11.0\MSPSCAN.EXE as in the description from Pavel in the thread
below.

Put it in the right place and my scanner works fine.

Probably won't help everyone, but if you have access to another computer to
copy the files from it seems something on my laptop was missing/corrupt.
Replace that folder and contents and all works fine now, with SP3 installed.

Thanks,

Chris.

I'm having the same error and it started right about the same time as your
post. Program had worked correctly for almost 2years and then this error
starts. I too have SP3 installed. Any help would be appreciated.

In my case I was trying to use Microsoft Office Tools--in particular,
Document Scanning--when I clicked the Scan button I got the error. I found
that the SP3 update seemed to change the Scanner selection default to the
TWAIN setting for my HP Office Jet 4215. I changed it back to the regular
setting and no logner got the error.

In my case I was using Microsoft Office Tools..the Docuemnt Scanning
function. After the SP3 update the default scanner selection changed to my
HP OfficeJet 4215 TWAIN setting. I reselected the orginal 4215 setting and
the error did not occur again.

Everybody here seems to have ignored Mary Sauer's fix for the error
message and inability to scan which she got from a forum. It worked for
me like a charm so here it is again:
Shorten the name of your scanner in the control panel to under 26
characters,
for instance if it says Hewlett-Packard Office Jet K80 Scanner, change
it to HP
OfficeJet K80 Scanner.
