Microsoft Editor crashes when i try to start it

i am trying to type up a math worksheet and when i try to open Microsoft
Equation 3.0, it says "Microsoft Equation Editor has encountered a problem
and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." What is causing
the problem? I am not a computer expert, so please help me by sending a
detailed method of fixing the problem.
