In what application? In Outlook version ? This is unusual for Outlook. Very common in Outlook Express. The way to stop this is when the application opens do NOT allow it to open to the Inbox. That will take care of the issue as long as you do NOT try to access the Inbox until all mail has arrived and the search for new mail has ended.
