Microsoft Entourage 2008 cannot open

Anil Balani

I am running Mircosoft MAC 2008 and have problems with Entourage. I
get the standard Microsoft Entourage had encountered a problem and
needs to close" error. I have done the following:

1. Rebuilt Database successfully. No success
2. Press Shift to Start Entourage. No success.
3. Ran Remove Office and then reinstalled the Microsoft Suite. No
success.
4. Removed the Microsoft User Directory. No success
5. Remove all files related to Microsoft under Library/Caches. No
success
6. I have created a another user and ran Entourage. Entourage runs
with this user profile successfully, but when I switch back to the
main profile (admin privileges), I still get the Microsoft Error.

At this point, I do not care about restoring my database since
everything is done via IMAP and have all my mail. I just need
Entourage to run under the main user profile.

Please let me know what else I should try. Any help you can provide
will be much appreciated.

When you ran in the new User, did you test your current Identity? (see ***
below)

You didn't mention removing Microsoft preferences. Some preferences are
actually stored in the database. This is why it's important to test in a new
Identity as well as a new User to locate the source of the problem.

Troubleshooting Your User Account for a Problem

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/troubleshoot/test_user.html>

Move the Microsoft User Data folder and place on desktop. Open Entourage and
let it create a new MUD folder. Create a new Identity in Entourage and let
it sync back up to your IMAP account.

Let me know what your tests show.

****Let's first be clear about the terms User, Identity and Account.

An identity is a complete personality of Entourage, containing (preferences,
account settings.

A User is a term used by the Mac OS. The terms Identity and User are often
confused. Creating a new User in System Preferences is a good way to test in
a clean environment.

Entourage stores your data in an Identity, and the Mac OS creates Users.

Your identity is named "Main" by default. It is located in the Microsoft
User Data folder. Creating a new Identity is a good way to test your
database to see if corruption is the problem.

Each identity can have (almost) any number of accounts. Each account is
associated with a distinct email address than can be used to send and/or
receive mail, but all mail is stored in the same database, all calendar
events are common to all the accounts, all notes & contacts are shared.

You can have multiple accounts in Entourage. Examples: POP, IMAP, Hotmail,
Gmail, AOL, Exchange, news accounts.
