When I attempt to open one of my Access 2000 databases (I
have over 30, but of course, the most important dbase
won't work), I receive the message:

"The Microsoft Jet database cannot open the file
MasterList.mdb. It is already opened exclusively by
another user, or you need permission to view its data."

Arcticle 251208 suggests downloading Borland Database
Engine. This does not work. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled Microsoft Office 2000. I have tried all of
the related security patches.

It is URGENT that I fix this problem. Anyone who could
help me, I would be extremely grateful. Thank you! Nancy

A couple of possibilities:

1. It is opened exclusively by someone else - have you verified that this
isn't true?

2. The database was closed using an inappropriate manner (power failure,
ctrl-alt-del, etc). If this may have happened, and you are sure that no one
is using the database, locate the file masterlist.ldb that may be in the
same folder as the mdb. Delete the ldb. Then try opening the mdb and
compact and repair it.
