Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 328232 - NO FIX PROVIDED

Allen Mayers

XP Pro, Word 2002;

This is frustrating, I have several important documents
that Word 2002 crashes on. MS acks the prob in the
referenced KBA, but provides no fix. The app error says
(paraphrasing) "a table is currupt ... choose the table
and ..." yeah, right ... in the 200 ms before the app
crashes.

"Contact Microsoft directly" ... it's easier to get W on
the phone at the Whitehouse, I went through the 20 minute
website navigation ... to end up here. I can only figure
that this company continues to be successful delivering
really buggy products because so many people are morons
and keep buying them, with the sub standard support
offered.

Duuuuh, I have several tables, the app crashes anyway, so
even if I could figure out which one that Word itself
scrogged, I couldn't select to fix their bug. The error
occurs when docs were created with a previous version of
Word, serves me right for expecting them to be able to
write code to handle this UNIQUE situation ;~).

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Do you have anyone with Office 2003? In Word 2003 there is an option in the
File, Open dialog to Open and Repair and this has sorted out several such
problematic document for me. (For those looking for this option, after you
have selected a document in the File, Open Dialog, click on the little down
arrow at the side of the OPEN button and the option is listed.

Terry,

Thanks for your reply. No, I don't no anyone with Word
2003. And no, I won't upgrade to give more money to a
company that won't support what I already paid for. MS,
WAKEUP, FIX KBA 328232 !

Does anyone realize how lame this is, that MS knows the
problem and won't provide a fix? I have written code as
a pro for 20 years, this needs fixed and is a DIRECT
result of sloppy development and inadequate QA ... now
well known MS trademarks.

BTW, I have been SPAM Virus targeted as a direct result
of visiting this site, with several bogus IE patch
virus. I know it was a direct result of visiting this
site as I used 'seeded' email addresses, as I always do
when dealing with sites of unknown security. Even Yahoo
knows how to avoid this on their groups !

Please pass this on to a MS employee and ask someone ot
respond to me at (e-mail address removed). I hope action
is taken to protect other users, but if I get no
response, I'll publish the details on ecomplaint.com,
telling everyone who is providing their email address so
that thier system can be attacked.

I have email w/headers with dates/times, attachments, etc.

No I haven't, but thank you Suzanne, I'll give it a try.
I appreciate your help.

It is really nice to use a product that is supported like
open source freeware. MS has conned nice folks like
yourself, into giving them a support organization for no
$ cost, "make then an MVP, then use then".

Then that have not shown an ioda of respect by protecting
peoples email addresses. I got 12 viruses sent within 8
hours of my first visit to the support Newsgroup. This
site is being used to 'harvest' names for SPAMMERS !!!

Abysmal !

It's not zero cost. There are perks for MVPs, like immortality, an
invisibility cape and a mood ring that can detect the difference between
"peeved" and "disgruntled".

Welcome to the internet. ALL newsgroups and websites are harvested for email
addresses.

Wrong my friend, I've been on the internet a hell of a
lot longer than you, from the days of ARPANET. Yahoo
Groups, among many others, has no such problem. They
don't publicly reveal the email addresses, instead
provide a layer to obscure them.

Anyway, I've moved on to Open Office 1.1, it BTW reads
and fixes the F&^(ed document that Word created and can't
read on it's own. There probably are some good
programmers at MS, God only knows where they hide them.

MS products are made for people that drive their
Chryslers to the dealer each month, to have the duct
taped back together, and then tell folks what a great car
they have. I've given MS 15 years to try and write
something stable, they got pretty close once with NT
3.51, it's a bad record, 1 out of about a bizillion.

There's a huge amount of email harvesting in every public newsgroup these
days. I really recommend that you mung your email address to stop this
happening (at least the harvesters aren't too clever - yet!).

Try (e-mail address removed) when posting public.

Hi Al,

I see you are using the Microsoft Web Interface to access the
newsgroups and you should know these are not private Microsoft
newsgroups. They are part of Usenet. You can access the newsgroups
from various sources, such as Outlook Express (or another newsreader),
you can and use your ISP news server, or utilize one of the many web
sites, such as the one provided on the Microsoft site, which provide
an interface to the newsgroups.

IOW, these newsgroups are not moderated nor or they 'owned' by anyone.
Microsoft hosts a news server for the Microsoft newsgroups but there
are 1000s of newservers that host the same newsgroups.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.

That's an amazing assumption to make.

don't publicly reveal the email addresses, instead
provide a layer to obscure them.

I got a ton of Yahoo Group spam.

I've given MS 15 years to try and write
something stable, they got pretty close once with NT
3.51, it's a bad record, 1 out of about a bizillion.

I see your quantitative skills are severely lacking.
