Hi David,
Thanks for your suggestion.
Problem is that this custom format is more difficult to «export»; when I
send data to my partners, I would like to use a standard format.
I saw in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 240829
«XL: Parentheses Not Displayed in Number and Currency Format» that code
in My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International\iNegCurr
should be 4 for the required format: in my registry, it was 15, despite
appropriate settings in Control Panel. After setting it to 4 (codes 0 to
10 are listed and explained in this KB article), problem was solved.
Seems that Control Panel, Regional settings fails to update registry.
BTW, what are codes 11 to 15 (or more) for?
Have a good day.

Hi Alain,
Pick the format that comes closest to what you want then
look at the cell format with Format, cells, number (tab), Custom
But I can provide the following specific number format.
I have Excel 2000 like you but set to US Regional settings
Under Currency I set up the format
which would produce (-$3.00) in red
which I can see the actual format in Custom
$#,##0.00_);[Red]($#,##0.00)
Which you can paste into Custom Number format

Hi,
Using Excel XP under Win2KPro. Regional Settings French(Canada)
(Francais(Canada)
I want to use parentheses for negative numbers in the Currency format.
I followed Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 832285
«The negative number inside parenthesis format is not available in Excel
for numbers or for currency»
but parenthese are still unavailable for negative numbers in all formats.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Alain
