Microsoft Office 2003 Document Imaging - Text Box

I am trying to add a text box to a mdi file created by printing to the
Image Writer from Excel 2003

I get no response to either the Tools/Annotations/Insert Text Box or the
icon on the toolbar. The same goes for the Pen and Highlighter. I
'googled' the MS groups and found the same problem posed a few months
ago but there was no reply. There was another post on the subject which
suggested the Text Box had to be created in Word.

Any help will be appreciated for I think MODI can be very useful to me
if I can get the annotation working.
