Darrell

I recently installed installed ms office 2003 at work...

My excel program looks nice but my "equals button"
disappeared and is now replaced with the functions button
(Fx)
Any ideas on how i can get it back

Hi Darrell!

Try:

Tools > Customize > Commands Tab>
Insert Category
Click and old down on the = (equal sign) and drag it to the toolbar
above the formula bar.

But it doesn't have the same functionality as the old one.

Darrell,

You need to look on the toolbar where the Fx button is. At the very end
there should be a small black downarrow, hover the mouse over this and
a pop up will indicate more buttons. Click on the arrow and you should
see a drop down menu. The equals button or "Autosum" should be visible
in the list. Place a tick by the side of autosum and the button should
re-appear.

It's gone and you can't get it back. You can get an equal sign icon but it
won't work the same

And a fine response from Microsoft it is! Along the lines of "We've improved
your life, so shut up and enjoy it!" Actually, that's unfair. It took the form
of a rhetorical question, so more like "How stupid are your users that they
don't understand how much we've improved their Excel 'experience'?"

Right. Reminds me of Brecht's

"the government should dissolve the people and elect another"

or something like that..
