Microsoft Office 2003 Missing!

Microsoft Office 2003 came installed on my computer, and I have activated it
and have used it many times. Today I looked and can't find it. My computer
shows it's installed, but it isn't in system32 where it should be. My word
documents have been converted to WordPad. I tried to reinstall with the cd
and it says there is an error installing it. Now what do I do?
This is the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me.

it should be in program files\Microsoft Office not in system32...

can you uninstall it and then reinstall?

Yes I did that finally, and it worked. I used the Windows Clean Installatin
Utility, and reinstalled from the CD I got with my computer and it worked.
Why did this happen?
