Microsoft Office 2003 " Unable to obtain list of tables from data source"

Hi -- I have recently upgraded to Office 2003. I'm having problems with mailmerge, once I get into Word. When I start in Word, I can get through to step 2, and then when I get to Select Recipients, when I choose "Select from Outlook Contacts", I am asked to Choose Outlook Folder. When I click on that, I get a box that pops up, and I select the only profile I have, Microsoft Outlook, and when I click that, I get an error stating "Unable to obtain list of tables from data source." Why would this be? What can I do to correct it?

Correspondingly, If I go at this from Outlook, when I get to the part where it takes me into word, I'm told that I need to click "Setup" on the box that comes up, so I do, and then I have to choose the datasource -- when when I try to do that, I'm given the following options: Create Data Source, Open Data source, Use Address Book, Header Options. I'm not sure what to choose to have it select the Outlook file that was just created, and is listed right below the button as c:\docume~1\...

Will you please help me?

Thanks,
Amy

Hi =?Utf-8?B?bm9yd2VnaWFubWFtYQ==?=,

For the first part, I think you'd need to ask in an Outlook newsgroup.

For the second approach, I believe I can help you. Once you're in the
MailMerge Helper setup you don't need to do anything for the second step
(selecting a data source). The path you see indicates that the main merge
document is already successfully linked to the Outlook data.

If you've already chosen a merge type (form letters, or labels, or
envelopes or directory), you can either close the dialog box and edit the
main merge document "behind" it, or if you've linked to an existing merge
document, go on to directly execute the merge. IOW, proceed with Step 3,
if both Step 1 and Step 2 indicate they're completed (as Step 2 does,
according to your description).

That doesn't work. It won't let you past the error message, "Unable
to obtain list of tables from data source."

Hi Frank,
It won't let you past the error message, "Unable
to obtain list of tables from data source."
OK, then there's definitely a problem at the Outlook end of
things. The only time I can remember seeing this (and it
was Word 2002 or beta testing 2003) was when I'd just
installed Office and hadn't actually opened and used the
Outlook Contacts before. Once I'd done that, it was
"initialized" and the Address Book converter mail merge
uses was able to "see" it.

Assuming this situation doesn't apply to you, then there's
something else wrong in the Outlook *.pst file, I'd say.
