Microsoft Office 2004 (Mac) encounters problem on startup

I have Just upgraded to 2004 but everytime I try to start Word, Excel or
Powerpoint I get the Following Error message: "has encountered a problem
and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Entourage however
will start as normal. I have tried all the usual things like uninstalling and
reinstalling, restarting, installing V.X first and then 2004 as the upgrade as
well as removing all traces of office and installing 2004 using the original
V.X disc as the means of upgrade verification. Any Ideas?

This sounds suspiciously like the bad font problem... Use the Font
Book application (in your Applications folder). Turn off ALL fonts
except the system fonts. See if Excel or Word starts up. If it does,
re-enable fonts one at a time (or in small, bite-size, savory groups)
until you find the one(s) which make Excel (or Word) croak. Get rid of
those.

It took me about twenty minutes to find two damaged fonts (which other
third-party font utilities vetted as looking fine, thank you very
much).

Aha... Do you have any antivirus/firewall software installed on your mac?
Such as Norton Internet security or net/virus Barrier?
If so, go to activity monitor, and force quit precess called: integod
A buddy of mine had similar office not starting problem, the reason was
crappy made Virus Barrier app...
