Microsoft office and Microsoft Works

Does anybody know what the difference between microsoft office and works are?
They both have office programs like database and spread sheet applications
and they are both made by microsoft. What makes these two seperate programs
different? does microsoft need to make two programs that do virtually the
same thing?
I am confused, because my school has microst office and my home computer has
microsoft works. It is very difficult for me to do the same work on two
seperate systems.

Works is a program that includes the things most people need for home
use, Office has tons of additional features which may be needed in an
office environment.

You should be able to do the same work on both systems but I think that
Office does not install the Works converters automatically on setup,
you might have to run the Office install program at school (or ask your
instructor to do so) and make sure it includes the Works converters.
