Microsoft Office cannot start because it is already in use.

Mac office users,

I am in need of help. I recently purchased a copy of Microsoft Office
2004 student/faculty edition from my university bookstore. When I use
the internet for example in the library or in my dorm room I often get
the message "Microsoft Office cannot start because it is already in
use." Now I have never shared my product number or start up disc with
anyone and I legitimately purchased office, yet I still get this
message. I have a feeling that there are other students that are using
illegitimate copies of office and I cannot use my copy as a
consequence. What can I do to prevent this from happing in the future?
Thank you.

Well I've only seen this when the same serial number was in use on more
than one computer at the time. Any chance someone in the dorm could have
copied the serial number and used it on his/her computer??

The chances that they are using a pirated version that just so happens
to have the same serial number are really really remote. I would suspect
they copied the number of your version and use it on their computer.

Does the warning message give you any clue like the IP address of the
other computer using it?? That might help you finding out what other
computer is using your serial number.
