Microsoft office document Imaging

Hi,
when I scan a document using Microsoft Office Document Imaging software the
file can only be saved as a tiff file. Every other bit of software says this
is an invalid tiff format and cant open it. The file can be opened again
with Microsoft Office Document Imaging though.
Is this something to do with a setting as I cant scan documents and send
them to people as they cant open them.

Any ideas appreciated

There's this great little free imaging program called Irfanview. One of it's
many features is that you can scan a document and save it in practically any
format that exists on earth. I have found that most of MS's built-on S/W
basically sucks, e.g. CD Burning, Paint, Image Editor, et cetera, et cetera.
Irfanview can be D/Led from www.irfanview.com. Get the plugins, too, for more
image types.

No, it's a problem in that the image compression used in these TIFFs is not
widely supported. TIFF is a container format and can hold all sorts of
differently compressed images. MODI uses a very efficient codec for colour
images, and the standard FAX-level compression for B&W.

Foolishly, Windows XP does not even support this image codec with its Image
and Fax Viewer.

I have found that if I want to share these files, I either have to re-scan
them with an application that allows saving to a usefully portable format,
or I take screen shots of the MODI pages and re-save them. The 2nd option is
only practical with a large monitor, or one that flips to portrait (like my
Tablet).
