Microsoft Office Document Imaging

Im running vista, with office 2007.
I have MODI enabled (copied the settings from my office 07 settings on XP)
and appears to work, but...
When I used to use it, it would save the document on my desktop as
requested. But, now it doesn't - I just get a preview of the document that
opens via "windows photo gallery" but doesn't save a copy on the desktop
(path is correct in settings).

However, if I use MS XPS Document Writer (also installed) - it does it
exactly right (saves a copy on the desktop) but only as an .xps file. I want
it to save as a .tif - preferably using MODI.
Any suggestions as to what I need to change?

In Document Imaging, Tools, Other tab, File Import Preferences. Is this what you
are looking for?

Sadly not.
If I compare the two it might make more sense.
When using xps (which gives the right results). I do the following:

Click print - select MS XPS Document Writer from list of printers - click
print - give file name xxxxx.xps (save as type xps documents) and it
saves/prints a copy on
C:\Users\(my computer name)\Desktop

Using MODI:
Click print - select MS Office Document Image Writer Driver - click print -
give file name xxxx.tif (save as type Tagged Image File Format already
selected) and nothing appears to happen*

A strange thing Ive just noticed in running through this. The other .tif
documents Ive been creating whilst running through this procedure can been
seen on the desktop when Im giving the document a file name in save as - but
they don't actually show up on the desktop itself (all my other desktop files
are there, but not the .tif files) Its as if my desktop cannot/doesnt appear
to display tif files. Could that be the problem and what could cause that?

Further to this, Ive searched for one of the .tiff file names and clicked
open file location - it shows as
C:\Users\mycomputername\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet
Files\Virtualized\C\Users\mycomputername\Desktop

Im guessing this may be the problem, although the path I select as my
default folder is C:\Users\mycomputername\Desktop in the printer setup

Any suggestions?
And, thanks for your help too!

Just a thought, but why not put them in a real folder? Sounds to me like
you are butting heads with the Vista operating systems "virtual folder"
system.

As I am only looking to create the mdi document and then email it, I just
want to save the document on my desktop so I can easily delete it after.

In "printer properties>advanced" I have the default location as
C:\Users\mycomputername\Desktop - but it isnt saving there - but seems to go
to

C:\Users\mycomputername\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet
Files\Virtualized\C\Users\mycomputername\Desktop

Is there any way to change this - as its not convenient to have to look for
that whole thread each time?

Put a Shortcut to the folder on your Desktop, an click that. OR as
suggested previously, why not put them in a real folder say, C:\temp?

I tried that too but didn't work either.
But, I've sorted it now and thought I should post just in case anyone else
ever has the same problem.
The .tiff file I was creating was from a program on the server, but the
server wasnt in my "trusted sites" list in Internet Options>Security.
It was the tick box "enable protected mode" that was stopping it. I don't
know how, or why, or even if its the correct solution - but it worked for me
so hope it will work for someone else too.
Thanks for all your help everyone!

Just to add some additional information...

My friend and I just ran into this issue as well. Printing to the Microsoft
Office Document Image Writer (MODI) from IE with Protected Mode on and User
Account Control (UAC) on, will end up saving the file into the Low Integrity
virtualized storage location (using a path similar to the one you specified).

The workarounds that we've found are to either disable UAC, Disable
Protected Mode for the Internet zone that the web site is in, or add that
site into an Internet security zone that has Protected Mode disabled.
Obviously all of these suggestions have security repercussions that should be
researched before taking any action.

We've also found that using other products like Adobe Acrobat to create a
PDF of a web page, or the Office 2007 XPS writer don't have this bug. (I
call it a bug, because when an end user specifies a location to save a file,
that's where the file should be saved to).

I'm really hoping that MSFT will put out a patch to fix this issue.
