Microsoft Office Enterprise Word says it quit working

I purchased a new computer at the end of May '08 and installed Microsoft
Office Enterprise. When I open "word" my documents will open but I cannot do
anything with them. It is like they are protected and are not. I cannot
bold, copy and paste, add to the document. Just print!! I can open a new
document and start typing and cannot make one change to it. If I wanted to
add something to the first paragraph I cannot! I cannot underline or
anything. Then when I close out it gives me a message the Microsoft Office
has quit working but I can still work in excell and other documents of
Microsoft? Any suggestions?

It indicates that either you have a trial version of Office 2007 that has
expired or you have installed Office and failed to activate it.

I am experiencing the same problem as described and it only occured after
the most recent set of office updates in mid July as all was working fine up
until then. All other Office modules are working ok and are activated. I
have reinstalled office a number of times and performed the office repair.
But still I cannot select any of the Word Options or select text in a
document however the select all works from the menu option. When Word is
closed it comes up with the message "Word has stopped working"and then
restarts. Is there another way to verify if Word is activated or access the
Word options. Other possible suggestions??

Terry,

May I ask what happens when we do this? Does the regedit recreate itself
when you open word again? Isn't it there for a reason? Just curious. I saw
that it worked for Daniel but is scares me to go messing around in the
registry. Also, would I still want to do what you mention here if my word
works fine under Administrater user but just does not work under me as the
user?

Thanks!

I ran Regedit, navigated to area you said to but there is no Word DataKey
there. There are five items:
Name Type
(default) REG_SZ
SETTINGS REG_BINARY
SettingsWordMail REG_BINARY
Toolbars REG_BINARY
ToolbarsWordMail REG_BINARY

Should I delete one of these, or should I look somewhere else?

As you suspect, the Word DataKey will recreate itself in its pristine
install condition when you next start Word. So the corruption(s) causing the
problem will be removed.

There MUST be a Word DataKey. Are you substituting 'version number' to match
the version you are using?
