Microsoft Office files won't open quickly

I have been experiencing problems with my ISP the past several days. A by
product of this is I can't open my Office files quickly with IE7 open or
having opened it then closing it. For instance I have tried to open Excel and
Word documents by double clicking them. After two to two and a half minutes
the software opens but the display is blank. If however I launch the software
(double click the desktop icon) as a new file it opens almost immediately and
I can then open the file I wish to review/work on. I need someone to help me
determine why this has mysteriously happened and recommendations on how to
repair the error.

Do you have Norton Internet Security or Anti virus installed? There i
an option in Norton that allows it to scan all MS Office documents upo
opening. You might try disabling that feature. It worked for me. No
my docs open with no problem. I didn't lose any security because th
email feature scans the attachment before it leaves

Hello Mr. Swinney,

I apologize for the tardiness in this response. I removed all Norton
software from this laptop as soon as I purchased it. I run McAfee instead.

I opened PowerPoint with no difficulties so I duplicated the code from
PowerPoint to Word and Excel (with the correct file extensions). All
softwares now open as they did before the error occurred.
