I too have the problem where Microsoft Office has to configure itself every
time it opens. I’ve been patiently waiting for 5 months for an auto-update
from Microsoft that addresses the issue. I’ve been using my older version of
office the whole time.
I'm trying to open it right now to get my PID to see if I qualify for free
“supportâ€. It takes over an hour to come up, and it holds my CPU hostage the
whole time. This is not normally a slow machine, and I have no other
problems with it.
I see the advice on this forum is to uninstall the old version. I'm not
going to do that for a few very good reasons;
(1) Until it works correctly, I'll stick with a version that does. It
configures every time, but even worse, sometimes Excel crashes when I
minimize it for a few minutes and then try to return.
(2) If I have to edit somebody's file from an older version, I don't want to
cause someone incompatibilities with their own file.
If any version must be uninstalled, it will be 2007. I’ve been happy with
Office for years. I’m sorry to be blunt, but this suggestion to uninstall the
old version is crap. If there isn’t a simple and reasonable solution soon,
then I’m uninstalling the product.
Will someone at Microsoft please create a viable solution to this problem?
