microsoft office licensing

I am hoping someone can help me. I have Office XP
Professional on my PC. I am purchasing a notebook
computer. Am I able to or allowed to install this same
program on the laptop? Is it legal? How will I activate
it, since it will probably tell me I have limited use
until it is registered and activated?

Please e-mail your responses. Any assistance would be
terrific.

Thank you,
Tony

If the software came with the computer, it is OEM and can only be installed
on the original computer. If it dies or becomes otherwise unusable, you
cannot transfer the software/license to a new machine. If it is retail
(purchased by you separate from the computer purchase) you can install it to
one desktop and one portable device, both used by you, but not
simultaneously.

Note: If this is Office XP Students and Teachers Edition (retail) it can
only be installed on one computer period.

Hi Tony,

If you have a retail copy of MS Office XP you can
also install and activate it on your notebook PC.
If it's an OEM copy of Office XP Professional then
it's limited to use on the original PC where it was
activated.
