Microsoft Office Local Files Slow To Open

M

Matt

Hi, I have a strange problem. One of our users is using
Office XP on a fully patched Windows 2k machine (512 MB
RAM, 1.5 Ghz, fast machine). Whenever she tries to open an
Office file using any method other than File -> Open (i.e.
double-clicking in Explorer, opening e-mail attachments,
etc) she gets a 1.5 minute delay before the file will
open. This occurs in Excel, Powerpoint, and Word. I
haven't tried Access.

Here's what I've tried:
- Rebooted in Safe Mode, double-clicking on a word file
opens fine. Problem does not occur in Safe Mode.
- Uninstalled, deleted all registry entries, and
reinstalled Office.
- Moved .dot files out of the template folder and the
startup folder (googling has turned this up as an
occasional problem).
- Removed all networked printers (googling has turned this
up as an occasional problem).
- Defragged and error checked her hard drive.

I am not having this problem with any other software
program.

Any ideas?

Is this files from the local hard disk or from the server? What server
software and service patches are you running. Are any other users running
WOrd XP? Do they have a problem?
