Microsoft Office\Office\EXCEL.EXE is not a valid Win32 application

Lately, In trying to open an excel file, or excel program,
I get the referenced notein a pop-up box.
Nothing eles opens.
Using Office 2000Pro and Win98. All other files seem ok.
Also, Microsoft automatic updater won't perform eaither.

Any clues?
