"Microsoft Office Outlook Has Stopped Working" on starting up

I have Windows Vista OS. I run Microsoft Office 2003. I have never had any
problems, until now when I try to open Outlook. As soon as it begins to open,
I get a message that says "Microsoft Office Outlook Has Stopped Working". It
shuts down immediately and will not work at all. I don't know what has
happened. I have tried to run the repair with the disk and also tried to
re-install. Neither one has worked. Any suggestions?

go to control panel, mail and create a new profile (keep the old profile
around for now) - does it work correctly?

IF I correctly created the new profile, then no, it did not work. It did
attempt to open the new profile as before, but I received the same error as
it closed. Any more ideas? Thanks for your help. BTW...I do have the disk,
but have used the alloted 3 installations, so I have been afraid to simply
try uninstalling Microsoft Office and reinstalling.

uninstalling rarely does anything more than detect and repair (office
diagnostics).

start outlook using the /safe switch - does it work?
At start menu run, type
outlook.exe /safe

if so, go to these two locations and delete or rename all files except the
*.pst (should be your largest files)
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook

then restart outlook.

Thank you Diane for all your patience. Unfortunatly I am still receiving the
same message when I try to open it. It gives me the error message then closes
down. I will contnue to try any other ideas you have. Thank you.

I have a similar problem but with Outlook 2007 on VISTA. On starting Outlook
today (it was fine yesterday) it shuts itself down almost immediately. I thn
get an error message saying ".. a data file did not shut close properly when
the computer was shut down ..". Can you offer any help?
