Microsoft Office Picture Manager Problem

N

Neal

I tried using this utility that came with Office 2003 for the first time. I
have used Photo Editor before with earlier versions of office. Anyway it
opens my jpg file just fine but I can't edit anything with it. Example: I
tried to crop the picture and went to that section of the program and did
the crop. It showed a reduced number of x and y pixels in the pannel on the
right. When I click on the O.K. button to actually do the crop, it just
goes back to the original showing the original number of pixels. For that
matter, I tried to adjust the color, change it from color to gray scale and
nothing works. Any ideas?

Thanks, Neal

If you crop the bottom first, the crop will stick... As for the color adjustment... I
haven't used this program for editing, but once you do the color adjustment, click
the Auto Correct, move to an area that you want white and it seems to work okay...

I'll give it a try (cropping) tonight when I get home. I was definitely
cropping the top first.

I tried what you suggested and it did not work. Does this sound like a bug
(I have a hard time thinking so) or is this a configuration problem?
Thanks Neal

Hi Neal,

Are you logged in as Administrator when using
MS Office System 2003 Picture Manager?

After you Edit to do the AutoCorrect followed by
cropping, while the graphic is still selected in
Edit Picture, use File=>Save As and save it to a
new file name. Then close the editing task pane,
click on a different folder in the Picture Shortcuts
list then back to the one where you were editing and
see if the 'save as' picture is there with the changes
still intact.

I tried it loggin in as administrator and I could do the crop. Why do I
need to be in this mode?

Hi Neal,

Did the 2nd workaround work if you were not logged
in as Administrator?

It appears to be an oddity related to the profiles.
This is one posted workaround that suggests its something
that does/doesn't get into the registry.

[[Jake: The only solution so far is delete the profile, then log in as admin, run Pic Man, then let the user log in and create that
profile. Pic Man seems to
"install" something as the user, and then they are able to edit pictures.]]

I was a little confused by your workaround description. I just read it
again and I will try it tonight (its at home). I'll let you know. You are
being diplomatic in your answer, it this works (I'll let you know), then it
is a bug with a workaround.
Thanks again, Neal
