Microsoft Office Problems

Mike

Recently installed SP1 and SP2 for office xp pro. I am
now getting errors in all of the office programs that
either the files cannot be open or that the files are
unavailable. There was an earlier post that suggested
that this might be caused by Norton AV, and referenced
"OFF:Cannot Open Office Documents or Cannot Edit
inserted Objects After You Install Office XP Service
Pack 2 or Office 2000 Service Pack 3 [KB328613]" at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=328613

I went out to the microsoft site and pulled up this
reference. It suggested I go to norton and update to the
latest versions of my software. I've done all that and my
problem still is not resolved. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Our recommendation is that you disable the Norton Office Plug-in. This is
just one of many conflicts it causes, and Symantec and Microsoft are agreed
that you don't need it provided you leave Auto-Protect enabled.

Thanks for the info. Went out to check on how to disable
the plug in. I and running NAVCE. According to the
norton site, NAVCE does not have an office plug in
incorporated into it. Any thoughts?

I'm not sure whether it's applicable to your situation or not, but here's
something Office MVP Beth Melton wrote to another user in a similar
situation:

Norton CE does not have the Office Plug-in option however if Norton AV was
installed on the computer and then later Norton CE was installed then the
Office Plug-in DLL could still be registered. I found this to be the case
when an OEM version of Norton was preinstalled.

First search your local drive for: officeav.dll

If you find it then go to Start/Run and run the following command:

regsvr32 /u "<path>\officeav.dll"

Here is a KB article that provides a few additional details. As on the
Symantec site, it does not include information on Norton CE but it will
contain additional details on the unregister command if you need them:
