I have followed all of the advice across the web about this problem as I've seen others have experienced similar pains. The computer displays the following message for all Microsoft Office programs I try to launch. It was working yesterday. Today...not so much.

"Microsoft ______ has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Someone must have an answer.

Copy the error log and post it here. You also need to give more details.
"Today not so much" tells us nothing.

Tell us what version is showing for the Microsoft Component Plugin.

I am running Leopard 10.5.5 and the Microsoft Component Version is 12.0.0

You have the base install of Office installed. The SP1 updater included over
50 updates just for Entourage. Let's get you updated and correctly
installed.

1) Drag the Office for Mac folder in the root application folder to the
trash and delete it.

2) Log out/in with Shift key down then insert your DVD. This quits all
startup applications including the hidden ones.

3) Run the installer ( I believe your CD Key will still be stored in memory)
as soon as it finishes the install the Microsoft AutoUpdate will pop up in
the Dock. It's a green circle icon. Select to keep in Dock. Do not do
further updates until you restart.

4) After restarting uou will want to log into your account again with the
Shift key down. Select the MAU from the dock and let it install. It will
install the new AutoUpdate 2.1.1. Restart.

5) Same process after restarting log in with Shift key down. Select the MAU
and it will install the 12.1.0 SP1 updater. Restart

6) Same process...shift key down. Run the MAU and it will install 12.1.5.

7) Restart

Now, you can open your Office applications. For details with screenshots see

Install Office for Mac 2008 with updates
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/install/install.html>

See the Dos and Don'ts for a good install to be sure you don't mess up
Office later on and have update problems.

In case the above link does not work:

Let me know how your install goes.

Happy Holidays!

"5) Same process after restarting log in with Shift key down. Select the MAU

I made it to this stage and then the updater wouldn't progress. I left it for an hour and the progress bar wouldn't budge. I've got the programs working but lost all my emails from previous version.
