Microsoft office standard student teacher 2003 edition licensing

I received a software package as described above with a used computer that is
no longer functioning. I was told by the owner of the computer that he never
used the product. It was not preinstalled software, it appears to be the
retail version of the program and I have his original receipt for the item.
How can I tell if it was registered with the product key from the original
purchaser? I was told it was never used, but I want to know if there is a way
to find out if it was registered/licensed with any computers.

if you have the receipt,
then you don't have anything
to worry about.

The issue that remains is whether
that edition is transferable to you.

The answers can be found at
Microsoft.com using a search
criteria like "student edition"....
