Microsoft office updates: Will update Beta versions of Office 2003?

J

Joe

I'm running Office 2003 beta (I think it's beta-2 - or beta-3?). For
example, my version of Word is version 11.0, build 4920.

When I go to the office update site, it says "Your Office products do
not need any updates. ". Hmmm. Notice that it DOES NOT SAY that "no
new updates are available"...

Question: Is my version of office "update-able" or will I always get
the message that no updates are (or will ever be) available?

Hi Joe,

With the release of MS Office 2003 in stores there
are no longer updates for the betas avaiable from
Microsoft.
Office System 2003 Beta 2 expires 30 Nov 2003
Office System 2003 Beta 2TR expires 31 Jan 2004.

From the build number you have, its Beta 2.

You can order a trial copy of Office 2003 products

Why isin't Microsoft more clear on the office updates page that Beta
versions are not supported by officeupdate?
Office System 2003 Beta 2 expires 30 Nov 2003
Office System 2003 Beta 2TR expires 31 Jan 2004.

What does that mean - expires? That when I try to run them after that
date on my computer they will refuse to run?

When will a non-beta copy be part of the MSDN?

Hi Joe,

You can use the feedback link on the MS web pages
to suggest that they be clearer regarding the beta.

When the Office 2003 betas expire each app will
become basically a viewer. You will be able to view
and print any of your documents but not to save changes

Office 2003 is available now to MSDN Universal Subscribers.
