Microsoft Office Visio 2007 // Current Version that mimicks "For Architects" from previous years

Before you say I'm in the wrong group
(microsoft.public.sqlserver.programming), please read:

Microsoft Office Visio 2007

Does anyone know if there is a version that allows TSQL DDL export, like the
previous version... Enterprise Visio for Architects?

As in..if you design a database in diagrams, you can get the tsql exported
out?

...

I've been to microsoft.com and can't find anything.

I'm trying to get some developers to do ER diagrams first.....but would like
a way to get the tsql ddl code from it.

What happened to the Generate and Update commands on the Database
menu?
A common question from people who use the Database Model Diagram
template in Microsoft Office Visio is "What happened to the Generate
and Update commands?"

The short answer is that the Generate and Update commands are not
available in the Standard and Professional editions of Microsoft
Office Visio 2003 or Microsoft Office Visio 2007.

You can find the full suite of database modeling features, including
the Generate and Update commands, in Microsoft Office Visio for
Enterprise Architects. Visio for Enterprise Architects is included in
the MSDN Premium Subscription, which is available with Microsoft
Visual Studio Professional and Visual Studio Team System role-based
editions.

Visio Standard and Visio Professional cannot generate a database, such
as a Microsoft Office Access or Microsoft SQL Server database, from a
database model diagram. Nor can they update a physical database from
changes that you make to your model diagrams.

What are you looking to do, if you want to assemble a database from the ERD
it can be done with the developers edition. You will need a MSD subcription.

Thanks Jason.

Since I don't have Visio 2007, your help-quote solved my catch22.

I appreciate it.

Yeah , you guessed what I'm trying to do.

So there is a Developer's Edition of Visio..but you can only get it through
MSDN?
Is that the deal?

the three editions (standard, professional, enterprise architect) come with
different levels as you've discovered. The enterprise version comes with
visual studio enterprise and supplies the forward engineering that you're
looking for. It's in a separate directory on the install media and does not
get loaded by default.

There's not a Visio for Enterprise Architechts 2007 at this point if that
answers your question.
