Microsoft office works is locked

Whenever I try to open my document a window that asks for a product key opens
up. I did not purchase this product it came with my computer. Before I could
just close the window and carry on with Microsoft Word without any problem.
But I just tried to run Microsoft Word and it's locking me out saying 'This
modification is not allowed because the selection is locked' Is this because
of me not having a product code? If so, why does it matter all of the sudden
if I have one or not? Should I look on my computer box for a code for it? I
also tried opening a new document and it says the same message when I try to
type. Please help!

Most times when a vendor installs Works they also send the disk. If you don't
have the disk, get in touch with your computer vendor and ask for the product
key.

Nowadays it'r rare that the computer manufacturer includes any CDs, much
less application software. Somewhere in your packaging is the product key
label. Call the manuafacturer and ask them where you should look for it.

(You are allowed to start Word a certain number of times before activating
the program with the key.)

Computer manufacturers often install a trial version of Microsoft Office. If you are getting a prompt to type in a Product Key when
opening a Microsoft Office program, it is likely the trial period is over and you'll need to purchase a license (product key) for
Microsoft Office.

The product key affixed to your computer is for Windows Vista (the operating system) and not for Microsoft Office. Please review

I have yet to buy a computer that the vender did not include the disks. Maybe
the disks have to be requested.

Could be - the last three computers we bought (all last year) came without
disks of any sort.

Please note subject says "Microsoft -Office Works- is locked". I assume
Sara has Office OR Works, perhaps not sure of which. Do they include Word
as part of Works now? My Dell came with Works 8.5, media included, proof of
ownership and "Tracking ID" on the CD sleeve. I have never run it, choosing
to install a retail version of Office instead, but the information on the
Works software sleeve would surely be needed to reinstall it if I ever did
that. Many people discard software sleeves, shrink wrap or other pieces
with vital Product ID stickers on them.

Cheers,

Earle
