Mac files have two forks to them. A data fork and a resource fork. The
PC interprets this as two separate files. If you would like to
effortlessly email files to both Mac and PC, change the type of
encoding to "Encode for Windows (base64/MIME); no compression; Windows
file name extensions."

You can find this option under your attachments area while composing a
message, or change in your preferences for default operation.

Another option is to use some type of resource fork remover (search
versiontracker.com). Once you remove a resource fork, don't open it
again in it's application or it will be restored.
